THe anti-gun violence movement
Denim Statements: a fashion experience
"You can't chase your dreams when your fears are chasing you." - Bridgett Devoue
It's difficult to wrap our heads around how many people die from gun violence in the United States a year. In 2018, there were 55,224 shootings, and 337 were mass shootings. With layers of emotion using metal and hardware, the look was created to make a powerful Gen Z statement. The design was inspired by activists, victims, news headlines, and an unsettling societal social movement, gun violence.
The anti-gun violence design was presented at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR, on August 23rd, 2018. The show was described as "Statements: A Fashion Experience is the celebration and culmination of 20 years of The Art Institute bringing innovative fashion to the Portland community. Ten seniors will make fashion statements through their capstone collections. The show will open with bold and expressive denim fashions inspired by political and social movements."
